Lower Valley Relay for Life raises more than $50,000

GRANDVIEW--The Lower Valley Relay for Life ended Sunday morning after raising more than $50,000 to fund cancer research.

More than 450 people participated in the relay at Grandview High School.  KNDO morning weather anchor Jordan Youngs emceed the opening ceremonies, while KNDO reporters Nick Paradise and Karma Dickerson read the names of people who have battled cancer for the evening Luminaria.

Survivor Lorri Gilmur-Dillman, who defeated breast cancer 12 years ago, summed up the Relay for Life's importance.

"We're small communities down here and when you realize how many people have either survived cancer or lost someone to cancer, it's a real bonding, special time," Gilmur-Dillman said.
