Low income housing available for first time since 2005
YAKIMA, Wash.- The Yakima Housing Authority is accepting new applications for housing assistance. For the first time since 2005, the section 8 waiting list will be opening in June.
In Yakima and Kittitas County there are thousands of people living in or below poverty and can't afford the basics like food and housing. The Yakima Housing Authority's section 8 program is geared towards helping them. The application allows people in extreme poverty to qualify for low-income housing. The director says they plan to house 70 more families than before.
"Once we hit 500 families on the waiting list we'd close it, we have changed our administrative plan and so at this point going forward, when we open up waiting list we will not be closing it," said Lowel Krueger, the executive director.
The application process will begin on June first. Anyone living in extreme poverty in Kittitas or Yakima County can apply. To apply, you can pick up a form at the Yakima Housing Authority office on North Sixth Avenue.
