Yakima soldier back from Afghanistan visits preschool
YAKIMA, Wash. - Children at First Presbyterian Church Preschool had the chance to meet a local soldier Tuesday recently back from Afghanistan.
"It's almost more fun talking to young children than it is big adults because they're just excited to hear what you have to say," said SSG Brandon Mattson. "You know they're not going to argue with you or get upset."
Mattson, born and raised in Yakima, is finishing his fourteenth year of service in the U.S. Army and will reenlist for another six years.
While overseas he received packages from across Washington state, including the children at First Presbyterian. During his visit, he was presented with a gift from the school and several cheers from the students. Mattson says he hopes they learn the importance of respecting everyone.
