Plastic bottles used to make chemical bombs

Posted: Updated:

Richland, WA - On Friday May 21, 2010, Richland Police responded to two separate reports of chemical bombs that exploded on the victims' property in South Richland. One exploded on the driveway and the other on the front lawn. The devices were made using a plastic bottle and creating a reaction inside causing the bottle to explode. In these particular cases, a form of acid was used in the creation of the reaction.

These bombs are very dangerous. Citizens are advised to not touch any chemical bomb or suspected chemical bomb, even if it has already exploded. The contents can still be very dangerous, even if they appear to be trash. If you see a chemical bomb or one that has already exploded, do not touch it. Immediately call 911 and keep people and animals away from the device.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call Richland Police Department at 509-628-0333. For follow up information contact Ofc. Erica Tungesvik at 509-942-7636.
