RICHLAND, Wash. - This Memorial weekend Richland High baseball will embrace its chance at history. The Bombers are two wins away from doing something the school has never done on the diamond. Win back-to-back state titles, and win a state championship on an even numbered year.
So far Richland has only won titles on odd years. Winning in 1999, 2005, 2007, and 2009. Come Friday, the Bombers would like to add 2010 to their list of championship years. Richland takes on Shorewood in the 4A state semi-final up at Safeco Field. Game time begins at 7pm.
Here is a taste of the mindset from the Richland dugout:
Senior outfield Chris Cecil said, "At this point it's just like... All the nervousness and excitement we just have two more games left to play... For you know... Get that second ring."
Head Coach Ben Jacobs added, "It's just another... I always say it's just another non-league game. It's another non-league game with just a little bit bigger prize than just reading a little box score in the paper."
