KENNEWICK, Wash. - A traffic alert, driving around with an unsecured load could land you behind bars.
State Troopers say as Spring cleaning and summer activities like camping and boating start up, you need to make sure loads are properly secured. If not, you could face a hefty fine up to $5,000 and even a year in jail.
Troopers say don't overload your vehicle and tie things down. There are even nets you can buy.
Here are some helpful hints:
-Secure the load and re-check while driving.
-If you are behind a vehicle who's load does not appear secured, drop back and increase your following distance.
-Move into a different lane.
-Look around you to see what your options are in case there is a loss of a load.
-Sometimes, it's better to driver over small debris than swerve to avoid it, which can cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
