Yakima, WASH--On Memorial Day you typically see two types of celebrations. The BBQ-pool party, and the tribute to service men and women who have fallen.
In Wapato, hundreds packed into the cemetery, not just to honor those who died in battle, but all veterans, and the people buried here with them.
The reservation memorial park in Wapato is not a military cemetery. But there were still more than 800 flags and crosses marking the graves of America's servicemen and women for the last three days.
They were put out by the Wapato American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. For 50 years they've placed flags and crosses on Saturday morning than picked them up Monday afternoon. For legion members, the holiday is as much about honoring veterans as it is giving comfort to families.
