YAKIMA--They may not be running, but kids at Roosevelt Elementary put together a nice run-up to next week's Relay for Life.
Roosevelt held an hourlong mini-relay Friday afternoon after school along with teaching healthy habits this week in class.
Teachers hope students retain this week's lessons on ways to avoid cancer, such as not to smoke or do drugs, eat healthy and exercise, as life long habits.
"I think they've done a really good job," teacher Mary Fishback said. "They really have learned certain things about nutrition and kids have raised a lot of money."
Fishback expects the students to raise roughly $1,000 through this relay.
They'll contribute it to the Yakima Relay for Life, which is next weekend at Zaepfel Stadium.
