YAKIMA--One of Davis High School's own comes back with advice for young students.
Jackie Brown was an All-American football player for the Pirates on the football field and later played running back at Stanford, starring in Stanford's 13-12 victory over Michigan in the 1972 Rose Bowl.
Brown spoke to students from grades six through twelve as part of today's "Black Elegance" event for kids who did well in school this year.
Many might remember Brown for his heroics on the field, but he preaches balance.
"You have to develop your mind spiritually, you have to be developed," Brown said. "That's going to sustain you when you have trouble down the road and keep you focused."
Brown was inducted into Stanford University's athletic Hall of Fame and graduated from law school there.
He now lives and works in Washington, DC, but comes back to Yakima to visit family several times each year.
