PASCO, Wash.-- Lawyers on Monday made opening statements in the trial of a Pasco man accused of killing five people 23 years ago. However, defense attorneys for Vicente Ruiz have filed a motion with the State Supreme Court, arguing the jury knows too much about the case. An appellate court put the trial on hold last month while it examined that same issue. Last week, a three judge panel ruled the jury could be fair and impartial. No word when the Supreme Court is expected to respond. In the mean time, a Franklin County judge said the trial would continue.
