Labor numbers released for Yakima and Kittitas Counties
Yakima, Ellensburg, WASH--Tuesday the Washington State Employment Security Department released labor reports for Yakima and Kittitas Counties.
The reports sum up the employment records for the last year. In April, Kittitas County's employment numbers were three tenths of a percent lower than last year. Yakima County's unemployment however, rose two tenths of a percent.
Don Meseck, the regional labor economist who complied the report comments, "Discouraged workers are re-entering the labor force in both counties, but I think they're being absorbed faster in Kittitas."
Many of the new jobs in Kittitas County are coming from Central Washington University. They are however part-time positions held by students. The report says the Kittitas County is less dependent on agriculture than Yakima is. This may be why they are doing a little better.
