Democrat surprises, joins race for the state legislature
YAKIMA--A Democrat and a Republican will challenge Norm Johnson in the race for 14th district state legislature.
Scott Brumback surprised Thursday by filing as a Democrat. The political newcomer is a personal injury attorney based in Union Gap. Brumback told KNDO he's also worked as a prosecutor. He believes his legal background would help get anti-gang laws passed to help the Yakima Valley.
Michele Strobel, owner of Stratton Cosmetics in Selah, announced she would run for the seat in January on a Republican platform of small businesses and family values.. She also officially filed Thursday.
Norm Johnson is running for his second term in the state house.
