Complete closures along I-90 start tomorrowPosted: Updated:
Yakima, WASH--Anyone planning to take I-90 over the next 6 years should check the Washington State Department of Transportation website regularly. As part of an expansion and improvement project, there will be complete road closures along a section of the Snoqualmie pass.
As anyone who regularly drives Snoqualmie Pass knows, the pavement can be rough, the curves are sharp, and avalanches can close the roadway. The project will pave roads, replace concrete, build bridges and most notably add one east and one westbound traffic lane along a section of I-90. During this project two lanes of traffic will be left open with one important exception.
The way DOT plans to widen the roadway is by blasting into the side of the mountain. During this blasting the road will be completely closed in each direction. This is scheduled to will happen regularly starting next week from 8-9 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Tuesdays and Wednesday may be added as well.
The area you need to be aware of is a 5 mile stretch between mile post 54 at Hyak and mile post 60 at Keechelus dam.
