Canal breaks in Richland, thousands without irrigation water
RICHLAND, Wash-- A main canal in the Columbia Irrigation District has broken. C.I.D. Officials say the breach happened near Columbia Park Trail in the Hills West area of Richland about 6:00 am Wednesday.
No homes are in danger and the irrigation water is flowing back into the Yakima River. About 8,000 homes from West Richland to Finley within the Columbia Irrigation District will be without irrigation water for at least a week. C.I.D says the water eroded an area where the dirt meets cement in the canal.
