KENNEWICK, Wash. - After years in the making one Kennewick project is closer to completion.The Southridge Sports Complex just got the go ahead from the City of Kennewick to move on to the next phase.
The sports complex, will start phase two A of the project. Earlier this week the complex got approved a $2.8 million dollar expansion. The money will go toward completing a practice baseball and softball field, building two new fields and a restroom.
City of Kennewick Operations Manager, Gary Deardorff says its important to keep the complex on schedule. He says the sooner the complex is completed, the sooner people from around the Northwest will come.
"It's important in the fact it'll help us for people who want to bring tournaments and different tourism activities in the Tri-Cities," said Deardroff.
The new complex is expected to bring in millions of dollars each year. Once the baseball fields are complete the city will move on to building concession stands.
Their goal is finish the Southridge Sports Complex by September 2011.
