No new adult business in Yakima County

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WASH--Its official.  The Yakima County Commissioners have imposed a 6-month moratorium on adult businesses on un-incorporated areas in the county.

That means no strip clubs, sex shops, or adult video stores in places like Terrace Heights, Tieton, Buena, and Gleed.

Commissioners say they will use those six months to come up with zoning rules for adult businesses on county land.  Since there are currently no zoning laws for them, if someone were to apply to start an adult business, the county would have no guidelines on whether or not to allow it.

By law, the commissioners have to hold a public hearing about the moratorium.  They say they plan to do that within the next two weeks.  We will let you know the date and time in case you want to weigh in.   We also have a poll on the home screen of our website.
