SWAT is called as fugitive locks himself inside a Yakima duplex
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima SWAT is called in for the second time this week as a fugitive locks himself inside a duplex.
Around 1:30 Thursday afternoon Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Corrections tried to arrest 36-year-old, Javier Garcia-Espinoza. He's a wanted fugitive for illegal entry into the United States.
At first he was compliant, but then he went in the house and locked the door with two other people inside. Officers evacuated the adjoining duplex.
"And they wanted to make sure that he didn't kick a hole through the wall and get into my duplex and take hostages or try to escape through my side," said Jamie Hodge, next door neighbor.
It all happened near Ledwich and Mead. Officers made contact with Garcia-Espinoza on the phone and he eventually surrendered before SWAT had to force entry. He's now in ICE custody.
