New era of energy savings in Oregon

Posted: Updated:

Workers for the City of Hermiston say we are entering a new era of energy costs and challenges, so to prepare, the City will be working with other companies to create new technology that will help manage energy costs.

Energy leaders say think of it like using a giant I-Pad that will help calculate when is best to use home appliances to save energy.

During a meeting today in Oregon, speakers talked about these new tools that could transfer a regular home into what they call a smart home by calculating energy use in a way that many say has never been done before.

The pilot program is called Power to the People' and workers hope it will accommodate population growth as more families move into the area. They also say it could be in full effect in just a couple of years.
