RICHLAND, Wash., -- The 17th annual Cool Desert Nights event kicked off today.  350 car enthusiast pre-registered their vehicles to participate in the car showcase taking place at the Uptown Shopping Center.  Cool Desert Nights are sponsored by Hapo Community Credit Union.  The Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce  puts it together every year.  President  and CEO, Lori Mattson says last year they showed some 700 different makes and models, and even more people are participating  this year.

The event closes down George Washington Way while everyone lines up the streets and watches the antique and muscle cars in the All City Cruise drive by.

Besides cars, Mattson says there's going to be street dances in a sectioned off area, "We have a band, a beer garden going.  It's ten dollars to get in, and there's a 21 and over area with lots of beer and lots of dancing.  There's a 70's , 80's and 90's live band called Dance Max Friday, and a Tom Petty tribute band called, Petty Fever Saturday night"
