Kennewick, WA- The Kennewick Irrigation District says the moss gumming up stretches of the canals doesn't pose a health risk, but homeowners and growers will need to clean their filters more often while KID fights the moss.
The moss has plugged up some pump stations and farmers' weir boxes. The moss has also slowed down water flow in some areas, causing low water pressure.
Workers are treating the canals with chemicals to kill the moss and prevent new growth.
Ditch workers have ramped up patrols to clean weed screens and pump filters.
