Congress weighing unemployment benefits extension, housing credit extension

Posted: Updated:

TRI-CITIES, Wash--  Some big news out of Congress, which can have lasting impacts on Tri-Citians.

Congress will not extend unemployment benefits until after the fourth of July holiday, if at all.   For weeks now, attempts to extend the benefits have been blocked, in part because of questions surrounding how they'll be paid for.  Many Tri-Citians are out of unemployment benefits.  99 weeks had been the limit.

For home buyers seeking that tax credit, the deadline for a home to close while still qualifying for an $8,000 or $6,500 tax credit has been extended an extra three months, pending a signature from the president.  The paperwork had to have been completed by April 30th to qualify.
