PASCO, Wash-- After two tours serving overseas a local marine is home. Staff Sergeant Gregory Herr spent time in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
We first met the family last November on Veteran's Day. They had nothing but proud stories to share. Herr was greeted by friends, family and the local ACES group. It was an emotional scene at the Tri-Cities Airport. Many people were crying, and as a way to say thanks the entire airport stopped to applaud him. It's a welcomed return home just in time for the Fourth of July holiday.
"I'm glad to be back, glad to see my family after a long time," he says. "My oldest is as tall as my shoulder now, and my little one that was small is just above my waist and getting bigger."
It had been months since his family had seen him face to face. But they'll have plenty of time now; he's officially done serving overseas. The family is moving to California in the coming weeks where Herr will be a teacher to other marines.
