PASCO, Wash;--Harms Engineering in Pasco is celebrating its 30th year in business.
Len and Ruth Harms started the civil engineering firm in 1980 from their family room.
The company's early years were a time when computers were not the norm, and engineering plans were actually hand drawn. Well, the business now has computers, and they've also grown to seven employees.
The couple attributes the company's longevity and success to their harmonious working relationship, and to their philosophy of putting people above projects.
"People are very important, clients are very important. It's not just a nameless company that wants engineering done, it's an individual who walks in with a dream that they want to see accomplished," says Ruth Harm.
And their hard work paid off in yet another way back in May when Harms Engineering took the top 2010 Mid-Columbia Small Business award.
