Sweets Double Up Wenatchee, 4-2Posted: Updated:
WENATCHEE, Wash. -- The Walla Walla sweets made the journey to Paul Thomas Stadium in Wenatchee Friday night to take on the division leading Applesox. Top notch pitching by starter A.J. Burke (Linn-Benton Community College) and reliever Joey Wagman (Cal-Poly) held the division leaders to only 2 runs. Walla Walla secured a convincing 4 - 2 victory over the Applesox, giving them their 2nd win this week.
Karsten Strieby (Arizona Western College) went 2 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Adrian Williams (UCLA), Deven Braden (Chico State) and Jordan Dreiling (Kansas) also racked up RBIís tonight to help secure the win.
The fourth inning changed everything for Walla Walla as shortstop Adrian Williams and first baseman Karsten Strieby racked up an RBI apiece, giving the Sweets a 2 - 0 lead, and scoring the first points of the ballgame.
Right handed pitcher A.J Burke had a phenomenal showing on the mound, keeping the Applesox hitless through the first three innings, and giving up only 4 hits in his 5 innings pitched.
Applesox second baseman stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 5th trailing by one, with one man in scoring position. It looked as if they had a golden opportunity to tie things up. A low fastball into the dirt for ball four was missed by Sweets catcher James Stanfield (Kansas), and Wenatchee scored, tying the game at 2.
Walla Walla was able to pad their lead in the top of the seventh inning, as a struggling Applesox pitcher walked in a run, making it 4 - 2. The Sweets never looked back as they raked in their 8th win on the season, and their second in a row.
