PENDLETON, Wash. - A fire near Pendleton burns more than 9,000 acres.

It started around 11:30 Monday morning in the area of Despain Gulch, Coldsprings, and Missouri Gulch roads, west of Highway 37. The fire chief for the Echo Rural Fire Department says the 40 mile per hour winds made it tough to put out. He believes it started in a shed. The fire was contained in about five hours.
