West Richland Police involved in Water Follies for the first time in years

Posted: Updated:

Just nine days until the hydros come to town and the 2010 Water Follies get underway. Law enforcement is also revving up for the big weekend.

Right now the water at Columbia Park is nice and calm, but in less than two weeks that will all change as boat races begin.

With Water Follies also comes a strong police presence here in Kennewick. Most of them you'll see on bicycles, and for the first time in many years, that includes West Richland Police.

"I think this is a great opportunity to jump right in," West Richland Police Chief Brian McElroy said. "Being a smaller agency we can't do a great deal, but any kind of effort we can make I think really helps out and really fosters a network relationship. We're excited about it."

They may be a small agency, but McElroy says he is working to bring the department out from behind the scenes, and become a stronger force in our area.
