Yakima, WASH-- The Perry Technical Institute community is lending a helping hand to students in need. They are holding a drive to stock their new food and toiletry pantry.
Administrators say it was brought to their attention that some of the students are going hungry. Students don't have to sign up to use the pantry. If they are hungry they can walk in and take items for themselves and their families.
"If they're here and they're hungry they're not able to learn as well. So we wanted to be able to provide some food, some nutrients, some items to be able to get them through the day and learn", says Anna Hopkins, who supervises the pantry.
So far most of the donations have come from staff, students, and faculty but Perry Tech has also gotten help from outside donors and they need more help to keep the pantry going all year.
