Falcons Fly By Sweets, 7-4Posted: Updated:
Walla Walla, Wash. -- A clutch performance late in the game from visiting Kelowna put the Walla Walla Sweets away 7 – 4 on Wednesday night. The Sweets' had a phenomenal showing right out the gate complete with outstanding pitching, and crisp fielding, which kept the Falcons tied down through most of the game.
Kelowna's Jesse Sawyer (South Dakota St.) broke the spell with a 2 run home run early in the 4th inning, starting a seemingly endless run for his team.
Starting pitcher for the Sweets Zachary Clanton (L-C State) had a great outing, pitching just over 6 innings in the game with 5 strikeouts, and only giving up 1 walk.
Elliot Stewart (Cal-Poly) came into tonight's game batting .412 throughout their last 9 games. Stewart went 1 for 4 at the plate with 1 RBI. Stewart, Andy Matthews (L-C State) & Curtis Dupart (WSU) all had RBI's early in the game.
Leading by as many as 4 runs early on, Walla Walla was unable to fend off the Kelowna bats late in the game. On the opposite side, the Falcons held the Sweets scoreless in the last 5 innings, giving them just enough room to make their comeback.
