YAKIMA, Wash. -- The man charged of stabbing another man to death outside a Yakima apartment was sentenced to nearly six years in prison.
Orlando Matute, was sentenced to second-degree manslaughter Wednesday.
Detectives said Matute stabbed Steven Sterling in the chest during an argument outside Parkside Apartments in November of 2008.
Matute's sentence was based on prior felony convictions and a set standard range as directed by the Sentencing Guideline Commission.
Prosecutor Sam Chen said the defendant had claimed self defense.
Chen said both sides weighed the pros and cons of going to trial, and they agreed sentencing would be the best resolution.
