Oregon Police warn of hoax AMBER alert

Posted: Updated:

OREGON -- Oregon State Police say there is a fake AMBER Alert text message that is being passed around.

The message comes with a picture and says there was a possible child abduction in Albany, Oregon. The OSP checked with the Albany Police Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who said there is no known abduction involving the child in the photo, and that it appears to be a hoax. There are no active AMBER alerts in Oregon right now.

The cell phone message reads, "This little girl was abducted this morning from Albany. The mother took her to daycare this morning and a man on the "safe list" took her from there and left. Please send this out to everyone on your phone. You would want to find her if she was yours."

Authorities have checked the database, to see if there are any pictures in the system that match the one being sent in the message but were unable to find anything.
