Homeowners near Cowiche Wildfire say it's been hectic

COWICHE, Wash.- Homeowners say the wildfire is overwhelming and are hoping they have seen the worst of it.

"We just had all sorts of things here it was like a circus people coming and going," said Wanda Wilkinson.

Wanda and Allan Wilkinson live in Cowiche and like others they describe the last 24 hours as chaos. Their main concern was their daughter and her husband. They actually live on the ridge and had flames in their backyard.

"It picked up and the wind was just blowing it, basically we all started praying," said Clark Smith, a homeowner.

"You don't have time to think about anything other than to get the fire out, save what you can," said Allan Wilkinson, a homeowner.

"Up there on these bare hills, it was lit up with bright red lights everywhere and it looked like a city up there in the hills," said Wanda Wilkinson.

Firefighters are still protecting the family's homes and putting the flames out.

"I've never seen anything like that in my lifetime and I hope never do again, not that close to home," said Wilkinson.
