Murray secures $50 million increase for Hanford cleanup
KENNEWICK, Wash. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray says she's well on her way to getting a significant amount of additional funding for Hanford site cleanup next year.
Senator Murray a senior member of the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Committee, announce that she has worked to secure another clear and consistent budget.
The goal is to get an additional $50 million dollars for Hanford cleanup for 2011 bring the total to about $2.2 billion. Senator Murray believes this is a big victory for cleanup especially when budgets are very thin.
"I've worked to make it clear that funding Hanford cleanup is our moral and legal obligation and not a luxury that can be targeted for cuts. This is the kind of consistent budget we need each year to deliver on cleanup goals, keep workers on the jobs, and honor the sacrifices of the Tri-Cities community," said Murray.
The bill will be considered by the full Appropriations Committee on Thursday.
