Uninsured driver numbers up

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.—As unemployment goes up so does the number of uninsured drivers in Washington.

One out of every six people behind the wheel is uninsured.  Washington has the tenth most uninsured drivers in the United States and that number is increasing.

Experts believe the increase is because of the economy.  People don't have the money to spend on car insurance.

But you can protect yourself.  Make sure your insurance has Uninsured Motorist Coverage.  This will protect you, your family and your car if you are ever in an accident with an uninsured driver.

There are also steps you can take to reduce your auto insurance bill.

  1. Shop around for the best and cheapest coverage.
  2. Raise your deductible's comprehensive coverage.
  3. Ask your current insurance agent about discounts.

Experts stress that by not having car insurance you could be spending thousands of dollars later in an accident.
