2010 Hapo Over the River Air ShowPosted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Hapo's Over the River Air Show is a time for people to get together and enjoy all that aviation has to offer. And this year's show was scheduled to be even longer and more extreme.
"This year we're going with high energy because this is a high energy sport, we wanted high energy acts. Lot of jets, lots of land aircrafts, violent maneuvers," Scott Meyer, Air Show Director for the Tri-City Water follies.
One of those acts includes Lieutenant Colonel John Klatt from the Air National Guard. Klatt has been flying for over 21 years and is known for his hardcore aerobatics.
"Physically it's rather demanding. You know you can pull upwards of 10 G's during a routine. Emotionally you're just focused at the task at hand. I'm tasked to provide good entertainment," said Klatt.
Klatt says although most of his air shows look like unscripted chaos that's not the case. He say's he practices throughout the whole year, sometimes up to 3 times a day.
"The spectator may look up and say that guy is crazy, but every turn, every twist is a scripted choreographed ballet. That provides safety," said Klatt.
Water follies staff says John Klatt is one of six exciting acts for this years air show. They say their line-up will be bigger and better than years before.
"It really boils down to great family entertainment. So again a very renowned air show right here in the Tri-City area," said Klatt.
