Emails from hydro fans across the world

Posted: Updated:

The 2010 Lamb Weston Columbia Cup was a success! Water Follies were fun and packed and the boat races were intense! KNDU had a live broadcast from the races on Sunday and we streamed the entire thing live on our website as well! We got a great response from viewers from all over the nation (Florida, Ohio, Maine, Michigan, California...etc.) We even got emails from other countries. You can read some here:

Thank you for broadcasting the races. My ten-year-old, Max, LOVES the races and is glued to your broadcast. We usually attend but weren't able to today, so your coverage is a great substitute (and we get to enjoy the air conditioning).

Thank you!

Great job on the broadcast- I'm watching from horse country in the heart of the bluegrass (Lexington, Ky.) where it is hot also (low 90's BUT lots of humidity). But it's not an issue as I will stay inside glued to the computer. Mark, Steve, Scott and Christine and the whole crew are excellent. Would like to send a get well soon out to Miss Peters and May driver JW Myers. GET WELL SOON JDUB!

Thanks for the excellent coverage,
James Crisp

Good Morning to all!

Just saw Heat 2B and it seemed pretty good up until the third and final lap. Dave Villwock just powered past them like he was toying with them. Anyways enjoy the summer weather up there in Tri-Cities wish I were there. Haven't been to the Tri-Cities Races since 2001.

Before that I was there all the time 71 to 1991.@

I have been enjoying your coverage of the races over here in Walla Walla. I was waterside security captain for Seafair for 10 years over in Seattle, and having moved back to the east side about 14 years ago, your coverage has kept me in touch with the sport.

Hi,
For the past three years my best friend in Seattle, Tim Knowles, reminds me of the Follies by sending me the KNDU link, so I can watch the race.
I would just like to say hi to Tim (I know he´s watching) and thank you for once again airing the race online. I enjoy the webcast very much. Go Oberto!

All the best,

KNDU:

Nice to have this race available on SWX in Spokane.
I grew up in Seattle and have followed the races since 1951 when they first came to Seattle.
Nice to be A/C home watching this and not battling the crowd, your high temperatures, and the drive back to Spokane.
Thanks for telecasting the race. You have come a long ways since the year that I first saw your broadcast in 2006.

Can't thank you enough for the live broadcast. I grew up going to the races yearly. After joining the service and now living in Little Rock, Ar I only make it back now and then. Made the last two years and was suppose to be there this year but the Air National Guard had other plans for me this next 2 weeks. Hopefully next year.

Dear KNDU NEWS:

Thank you for your live broadcast. My ten year old son has been going to the boat races since he was born. Unfortunately, this year we were not able to make it. He had surgery on Thursday because of appendicitis and is home recovering. He really misses being out there with all the action and is quite dissapointed about not being able to watch at the park, but watching your live broadcast is the next best thing. He pays attention to when the airshow is happening so that he can venture out of our home to see if he can catch a glimpse of the planes from our front porch. Thank you for making it possible for him to keep track of what is going on with one of his favorite events of the year.

Hi, Bill from Detroit. Love the races, just wish I was live to watch them. Had a great gold cup race this year, with the exception of JW Myers crash, but glad he is all right with minumal injuries. Have a great weekend all.

Hey this is Renee Narvaiz, former KNDU producer!! Just letting you guys know the coverage is awesome!! I'm definitely not missing the heat of race day, but missing the action. This is really making me homesick for the Columbia River! Take Care KNDUers!

From a viewer out of California: John Wagner from Nevada City, California wants to say hi to his parents, the Horns, in Yakima. He was watching us through our live stream and loved it.

Hope you were wearing Depends as that F-18 just went past!!

My guys are in Patrol Boat P19 on the Pasco side - hopefully making friends over there and not enemies! - have been for 3 days of this heat. BUT I just want to thank you! Because of your willingness to be in this heat (and those poor production guys in the van), I am able to stay home and enjoy the show and the hydros in the coolness of air conditioning!! You guys and gals have done a GREAT JOB!!

Thanks again,

Hello to Larry and the entire KNDU crew,

The KNDU coverage of the boat races and the airshow have been fantastic!! I am so impressed with your cameramens' ability to keep up with such great shots of the planes and boats.
And bless all your hearts for being out in the heat to bring us and the world such a entertaining view of the races.
Great job and thank you for letting those of us at home enjoy the races!!

Stay cool,

Just wanted to drop a note and says thanks for providing such excellent coverage of the Columbia Cup. It's a real treat to get to sit here in Baton Rouge and watch the races in Tri-Cities. Your coverage of the racing is outstanding but also your human interest stories are very well done. Love the interviews you guys do as well.

Looking forward to next year. Keep up the great work!

Kerry

To the news director,
I would like to thank KNDO and KNDU for the coverage of our 1/8 scale hydroplane race today at the Columbia Cup. Ileana Diaz and Shawn Chitnis were great to work with. They did an outstanding job and as contest director for this race I want to say thanks.

My husband and I met at the races in San Diego 25 years ago but now live on the coast in Oregon. We've attended the Tri-City Water Follies for many years but couldn't be there this year. We found the "Live Streaming" almost like we were there! The race coverage was great and the other stories were very interesting!

Just wanted to thank everyone for a great job!
Hope to see you "live" next year!

Sincerely,
Barbara & Ken Martin
