Small charities at risk of losing their tax exemption
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Thousands of small charities are at risk of losing their tax exemption status after failing to fill out required forms.
In Washington there are over 8,100 small non-profit organizations that didn't fill out the required forms for the last 3 years. For this reason, the IRS is working on a special one time program for small charities. The program will give these organizations the chance to re-file the required form and continue being tax exempt.
"We are doing everything we can to help organizations comply with the law and keep their valuable tax exemptions, so if you do not have your filings up to dates, now's the time to take action and get back on track," said Dough Shulman, Commissioner for the IRS.
The deadline to file under this one-time relief program is October 15. To find out if your charity or non-profit is on the list click here.
