Suspect arrested in alleged rape of a 21-year-old female

WALLA WALLA, Wash.-- Walla Walla Police Department reported a man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly raping a 21-year-old female.

Herman Rankin Jr, 50, 305 Ash, Apt. # 313, was arrested by WWPD Detectives Thursday afternoon following an alleged rape Wednesday night at his apartment. He was taken into custody without incident at the Galbreath Apartments, 369 Catherine.
The 21 year old female victim was able to get away early Thursday morning while Rankin was walking her to another residence. She hid and called family to pick her up. She was driven to a local hospital and reported the assault to WWPD Patrol Officers at 7:00 a.m. Thursday. The victim reports that Rankin threatened her with a knife leading up to the sexual assault.
Rankin has previous felony convictions in Mississippi for burglary and theft, and a rape conviction in Louisiana. He was released in March of this year after serving 28 years in prison.
