Thousands of Yakima families receive health services for free
YAKIMA, Wash.- Thousands of families in Yakima don't have health insurance but on Saturday, many of them were able to get the services they needed for free.
Over 3,000 families took part in the Fiesta de Salud Multi-Cultural Health Fair. 50 booths were set up with everything from bicycle safety to early learning programs. The most popular booths we're medical-related ones where you could get free health screenings. Organizers say the community's response shows how much of a need affordable healthcare is in Yakima.
"We have free services for them that they have barriers to afford or to find in other times," said Lily Gonzalez, one of the event organizers.
This upcoming week is Be Well Week across Washington and volunteers say they will continue to promote health and awareness.
