YAKIMA, Wash. - The city council will consider a resolution Tuesday to freeze firefighters' pay for 2010 as measure to cope with the tough economy.
"We appreciate that they recognize as we do the difficult times that we're in," said Council Member Dave Edler. "And taking steps that are important to allow us to continue to server our community."
The International Association of Fire Fighters is the department's union and put together a proposal to help out the city. Under the agreement, firefighters would not receive a raise this year.
The resolution requires firefighters receive a two-percent pay raise for 2011 as part of their two-year contract.
