RICHLAND, Wash.— The City of Richland is being congratulated for adopting the International Green Construction Code.
The International Green Construction Code gives architects the option to build and update environmentally friendly structures.
The City of Richland is the first in the nation to adopt a Green Construction Code. Other cities do have sustainable living requirements, but Richland is the first to coordinate the new Green Code with pre-existing codes. The code can be used for existing structures and future buildings.
The code is not mandatory. The city hopes it will increase the city's already high level of sustainable living. Eventually they expect the code to become the standard.
