Remember the lives lost in Nagasaki

Posted: Updated:

To remember the past and hope for a brighter future is the theme of tonight's gathering in Richland for the 65th anniversary of the atomic bomb dropping in Nagasaki Japan.

People lit candles and honored the Bell of Peace, a gift sent by the mayor of Nagasaki to the people of Richland in 1985.

"We remember that tragic past with hope we can avoid a similar occasion in the future," organizer Jim Stoffels said.

It's the 29th year people have been coming together for this memorial ceremony in Richland.
