Central Relying on Youth This Season

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- There will be a lot of meeting and greeting this week as the Central Washington football team continues its 1st week of fall practice.

23 seniors left a Wildcat team that went undefeated in the regular season last year. Even with all the new faces, Central is ranked 5th in the preseason coaches poll.

They open their season August 28th against the 4th ranked Division II team, Minnesota Duluth. That game, of course, will be carried live on SWX.

But hey, how will Central win with all those young players?

"We got a lot of new faces coming in here," said Senior Linebacker Adam Bighill. "I just want to see everybody come together as a team and play some good football."

"We have open competition at the quarterback position, at the offensive line position, and in the secondary," said head coach Blaine Bennett. "All 4 starters are gone in the secondary so we have a lot of players that are talented trying to compete for a starting spot."
