Near SELAH, Wash. -- Washington State Patrol say fire crews responded to two small brush fires along I-82 near the Fred Redmon Bridge, north of Selah on Friday.
Westbound traffic was closed off for a few minutes around 1 p.m., as firefighters with the Selah Fire Department put out of the fires.
Selah's fire chief says an emission from a passing semi-truck most likely started the fires. The 20mph winds in the canyon were a big concern for firefighters.
"Once it gets in there you get the swirling winds that'll go up the canyon and down the canyon, it may go across the other side and come up the other wall and it's very hard to get fire firefighters in there", says Chief Jerry Davis of the Selah Fire Department.
Selah and the Yakima training center fire crews got a handle on the fires before that happened. Less than a quarter of an acre burned in each fire.
