Sisouvanh trial pushed back

Posted: Updated:

Kennewick, WA -A Benton County judge has reluctantly granted a two-week delay in the trial of a woman charged with murder.

The defense team says it's still waiting for a psychiatrist to evaluate Phien Sisouvanh. She's accused of murdering a pregnant woman in Columbia Park and cutting the unborn baby from the womb.

Judge Robert Swisher says he's frustrated that two years has passed and the defense still isn't ready for trial.

In April, state psychiatrists found Sisouvanh competent to stand trial. Her attorneys say the report they're waiting for will tell them if they may use an insanity or diminished capacity defense.

The trial is now scheduled to start at the end of September.
