Top Ten Plays of the WeekPosted: Updated:
Listed below our KNDU/KNDO's Top Ten Local Sports Plays of the week:
10.) Southridge High took on Sunnyside under the lights Friday night. Chris Hauter on a draw up the middle, navigated his way through the Grizz and climbed his way in for the score. Suns go on to win this match up 21-12.
9.) Boise State's Kellen Moore was once a local athlete playing quarterback for the Prosser Mustangs. Now he leads the third ranked Broncos under center. On Saturday, Moore shined again throwing for 370 yards and two touchdowns against Wyoming. No particular moment stood out, other than a beautiful fist pump after his first touchdown pass. Let's face it, I'm a Jersey guy, and love anything to do with fist pumping. Keep pumping that fist Kellen.
8.) Transfer from Wapato Cody Nickoloff continues to shine up at East Valley. The senior led the Red Devils against Quincy on Friday night. His best moment came when he took a handoff right up the gut, bounced it to the outside and scampered 60 plus yards for the touchdown. Nickoloff has the wheels and used them against Quincy on that play.
7.) We all know how big the Tri-city Spokane rivalry is on the ice. Well, the Ams on Friday night took on the Chiefs in a pre-season skate, and Ams goalie Drew Owsley had the pipes secured. He made 30 saves as the Ams down the Chiefs 3-1.
6.) Davis battled Moses Lake on Friday night, and Pirates running back Austin Wagner came to play. On a simple handoff he gutted the Chiefs defense, forcing several defenders to the ground, while leaving the rest in the dust for a 60 plus yard touchdown run.
5.) At Edgar Brown Stadium Saturday afternoon, Columbia Basin football struggled for offense against Green River. In fact, the only points scored were thanks to linebacker Ryan Craig. He returned an interception for a touchdown, which proved to be the game winning score, in the Hawks 6-0 win.
4.) East Valley again in the top ten, but this time on the pitch. The lady Red Devils welcomed visiting Prosser into its digs, and then lit up the scoreboard. Salome Yates had the best strike of the afternoon. From an impossible angle on the end line, while being chased down by the goalie and a defender... slipped it home from the side. How Yates pulled this off, I still do not know. East Valley won that contest 5-3 over Prosser.
3.) Kiona-Benton how little to cheer about on Friday against River View, except Hayden Wing's monster punt return. Hayden went right up the middle on the return for 70 plus yards and for the touchdown.
2.) At Lampson stadium the Kamiakin Braves controlled the tempo against visiting West Valley. Briana Turley for the Braves had the most memorable moment from this contest. Off a pass, she kicked the ball into the air to herself... then as the ball traveled back down she booted it over the side of her shoulder to a teammate... who then buried the feed into the back of the net. Kamiakin won this contest 3-0... and Turley was a big reason as to why.
1.) Central Washington football claiming the top spot yet again. Adam Bighill late in the first half forced a fumble, and Stan Langlow picked up and returned it to the house. The Wildcats crushed visiting Dixie State 43-21.
