GRANDVIEW, Wash. -- A Prosser woman and Sunnyside man are in custody after Grandview police say they took off in a stolen vehicle with a 7-year-old boy still asleep in the back seat.

Officers responded to an abduction call around 6 a.m. Monday morning outside a home on the 1000 block of Grandridge Road.

Police the boy was asleep in the his mother's car which had been left running. They were able to find the boy and the stolen vehicle, less than a mile away from the home.

The boy was not harmed and was quickly reunited with his mother.

With the help of some alert citizens, police arrested Elizabeth Gonzalez, 27, and Ruben Roman, 31, on vehicle theft and kidnapping charges.

Grandview police want to remind everyone to never leave your vehicle running while unattended. They say it's illegal and makes it easy for thieves to steal your vehicle.  Police also warn that it's a criminal offense to leave a child under the age of 16 alone in a running vehicle.

Police say because the boy's mother went through so much with her son being abducted, they will not likely pursue charges against her for leaving her son in the running vehicle.
