YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Granger man is behind bars for the shooting death of a 31 year old Yakima man Tuesday night.
Billy Ray Hicks Jr. died after a gang related shooting on the 300 block of Poplar Street. It happened just before 8 PM Tuesday night. Officers found Hicks with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police say they have identified the shooting suspect as Adrian Estrada, 32, from Granger. Yakima Police Department, Violent Crimes Task Force, Yakima County Sheriff's Office and the Granger Police Department joined together in arresting Estrada in a home in Granger around 7 AM Wednesday morning.
Police believe the suspect and victim were involved in an altercation over a property dispute, during which the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim once in the upper chest.
Police told KNDO at the crime scene Tuesday night, both the victim and the suspect had gang ties, however, they said this incident was not gang related.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Police will continue to investigate this case.
Tuesday's deadly shooting makes it the 19th homicide for Yakima County this year and 10th for the City of Yakima.
