Blockbuster files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--  Blockbuster has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.  The movie-rental company announced the plan Thursday morning in order to reduce its debt.

We wanted to know what this means for local Blockbuster stores in the Tri-Cities and Yakima areas.  According to Blockbuster's website, all 3,000 stores in the U.S. will remain open for now. During the bankruptcy process, they'll be evaluating stores and their profits and making decisions later.  The company also says store hours and rental prices will stay the same for now.

Blockbuster hasn't said when it may announce store closures or any fee changes.
