Benton County Emergency Services having an Open House Saturday
RICHLAND Wash.-- Benton County Emergency Services is inviting the public to take a behind the scenes look at the daily operations that protect the community.
On Saturday from 10:30 to 1:30, visitors can tour the emergency center and watch 911 operators in action.
kids can practice making emergency calls on a 911 phone simulator, and many disaster tools will be on display.
Visitors will also be taught how to make an emergency kit and an emergency plan for their families.
"Its important to have a 72 hour kit, because after a disaster it could be three days before help can get to you. So you really need to be able to take care of yourself," says Public Information Officer Sara Schwartz.
Some of the most important things to pack are a gallon of water per person per day and food that won't spoil.
