Seattle grandmother killed 3 family members, then herself
SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle police described a chaotic scene Thursday at a Seattle home where a 60-year-old woman fatally shot three family members before turning the gun on herself.
Assistant Chief Jim Pugel said at a news conference Friday that the dead include the older woman's 14 year old and 17 year old granddaughters and her 43 year old son-in-law. The woman's 40-year-old daughter was also injured, but is in satisfactory condition Friday at Harborview Medical Center.
Pugel says three other family members, including a 7 year old girl, escaped the mass shooting.
A man who later was determined to be the woman's husband entered the house through the back, then later ran out to tell officers his wife had shot herself.
Pugel say at least 20 shots were fired inside the house. Police have not determined a motive for the killing. The family released a statement to KIRO-TV Friday saying the woman suffered from depression and schizophrenia.
